Paradiso
Born out of New York’s experimental ‘No Wave’ scene in the early 1980s, the indie avant-rock band return to Amsterdam on what is becoming somewhat of an annual pilgrimage...
They’ve just released their 17th album, Nurse, the third in a trilogy dedicated to Lower Manhattan’s cultural history. Their previous album title, Murray Street, came from the New York street their studio is located on and where they began recording in August 2001. After September 11 the area – and studio – was cordoned off after an engine from one of the planes landed there. Work on the album resumed only when legally possible. Incidentally, band member Jim O’Rourke happened to be sleeping off a heavy club night at the studio when the planes hit.
