July 2004 Craig Unger: House of Bush, House of Saud 29 July New York Times bestseller House of Bush, House of Saud by investigative journalist Craig Unger details relations between the Bush family and the Saudis and was an important source for Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11. In fact, Unger was featured in the documentary being interviewed by Moore. 'Craig Unger has done America and the world a huge favour by clearly and precisely documenting how the Bush inner circle is in the very deep pockets of the brutal Saudi dictators.’ Michael Moore. American professor Dr Ruth Oldenziel (UvA) will moderate the debate and interview Unger. Following the debate, Unger will sign books (note that there there will be only Dutch copies of the book available, De Familie Bush en het huis Saud). The event has been organised by Amsterdam-based Mets & Schilt publishers www.metsenschilt.com More info at www.fahrenheit911.com GlamSlamThankYouMam 22 July 2004 An electropunkpopmashup. 19 July 2004 The daughter of João Gilberto – the man often credited with the invention of the bossa nova – Bebel Gilberto first took to the stage at the Carnegie Hall with her mother (the singer Miúcha) and the legendary Stan Getz when she was just nine years old. Coming of age with collaborations with the likes of David Byrne and The Thievery Corporation, Bebel is undoubtedly the premiere purveyor of contemporary Brazilian music. 8 July 2004 CANCELLED Over Het IJ Festival 6-17 July Large-scale, site-specific performances are the hallmark of this inventive avant-garde festival which takes place in a former shipyard, as the name suggests, across the River IJ in Amsterdam-Noord. As well as some quirky Dutch-language experimental theater (which is usually pretty visual so it doesn’t matter if you haven’t got to grips with the language yet), there is dance, music and installations. And this year’s Olympic-themed event also has a ‘Float-In Cinema’ for the boating fraternity. Ennio, 1 Man, 100 Stars
6-25 July 2004 Described as ‘a one-man origami extravaganza’ and a ‘living cartoon’, Venetian-born performance artist Ennio Marchetto parodies famous stars through a mixture of dynamic physical comedy (drawn from commedia dell' arte, drag balls and Disneyland) and amazing paper cutouts as costumes...
