15 November 2004 Shadow Film Festival 15-24 November 2004 Literally shadowing IDFA 2004, but with the emphasis more on creative and experimental documentaries, this annual international film festival features 25 documentaries, along with talks by filmmakers and invited guests. Often throwing up some suprising gems, the filmmakers are young unknowns who redefine the documentary genre, demonstrating they can be just as exciting as feature films. The Shadow Festival aims to offer a podium to those interested in innovation and quality rather than commerce. Film screenings take place at the Melkweg, Filmmuseum and Uitkijk. The festival later tours Eindhoven, The Hague and Groningen. Jeanette Winterson
