Spiegeltent (Mirrored Tent), Kop van Java-Eiland

The enigmatic Count Voronin (Ukranian illusionist Eugeniy Voronin), is the Maître D of this unique event which blurs the boundaries between dining, circus and cabaret. And Dracula aficianados will love it.

Presented in an opulent spiegeltent (mirrored tent), the show includes acrobats, magicians, a contortionist and live musicians – while the six-course gastronomic feast is in the hands of Michelin-star chef Ron Blaauw.

Note: I went with a friend and we had a blast. It's Moulin Rouge meets 1920s Berlin in the heart of Amsterdam. All that was missing was the Absinthe. And the champagne (Piper-Heidseck Brut) was divine. Tip: catch the little ferry from behind Centraal Station direct to the Kop van Java Eiland (just €1) for that extra experience...

The fourth annual festival organised by Het Parool in which Oscar-nominated films are screened over the weekend in the lead up to the actual Oscars ceremony in the wee hours of 28 February (27 February in the US). Tickets cost €25 a day. A fabulous initative.
